The Libyan House of Representativespassed Law No. 1 of 2018 concerning the amendment of some provisions of the Social Security Law No. 13 of 1980, which decided to extend the retirement age to the age of seventy.
In article 1, paragraph (c) of Law No. 13 of 1980, the new law replaced the text of article 13, paragraph (c), with the following text: “A person who reaches the age of the end from a work or service may continue to serve or work until the age of 70 years. In addition, a person who has already been referred to a pension may be reappointed. All of the above shall require the applicants request and the consent of the employer and the fitness of health, while complying with the other conditions prescribed by law to remain in service, employment or appointment therein.
The new law stated in its third article that it must be implemented from the date of its issuance, stressing the abolition of any rule that contradicts it.
