The “Shura” Council approved on the amendment of Article 77 of the Labour Law concerning the unfairdismissal of citizens from their jobs in the private sector.
Article 77 of the labourcode concerning the financial compensation fordismissed workersfor no reason,states thatthese workers would get a wage of 15 days for each year of works as compensation, if the contract duration is indefinite. Whereas, if the contact duration is for a fixed term, workers get the wage of the remaining time of the contract.If the contract duration is not specified, workerswould get a compensation not less than two months’ salary.
On the other hand, the “Shura” Council approved on the amendments made by the government regarding the reduction of the maximum working hours for certain activities, especially those aimed at resettlement.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the government believes that the worker cannotwork for more than 8 hours per day if the employer adopts the daily standard or more than 48 hours per week if the weekly standardsare adopted.Moreover, reducing the actual working hours during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan for no more than 6 hours a day, or 36 hours per week.
The second paragraph states that a decision by the Council of Ministers may reduce the working hours of some activities by at least 40 hoursper week.
