Lebanon Electricity laborers block roads to protest

LEBANON – Day laborers at Lebanon Electricity EPS blocked a road in Mazboud village protesting recent sacking of 19 of their colleagues.
They have blocked the road with burning tires for more than half an hour, causing a severe traffic jam in both road sides.

On behalf of protesters, Yasser Murad said he and his colleagues are not fans of sit-ins, or blocking roads, but “this has become our job after dismissing us from our work”;“We are defending our rights, and not blocking roads to harm people, but to defend the source of our livelihood and to be able to pay schools’ tuition,“ he added, while calling on company’s director RiadhAsaad to address the issue from a humanitarian perspective.
