ATUC calls for solidarity with the Algerian contractual teachers

The Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) and the Independent Trade Union Confederation in Algeria called for solidarity with some 2,500 contractual teachers in Algeria, demanding to integrate them into the “permanent employment system”.

Following rejecting their continuous demands by the concerned authorities, the contractual teachers embarked on an open-ended hunger strike that was preceded by a 240km walk.

Fullah Jalal, one of the protesting teachers and who was hit by security forces, breaking her leg said it is difficult to embark on hunger strike after a long walk as the majority of them are exhausted.

In response to this act, Minister of Education threatened of terminated contracts with those teachers.

Accordingly, ATUC has launched a call to show solidarity for those teachers.
