Mauritania : One man died after spraying tear gas by security forces on Nouakchott port workers who were protesting in a call for their rights.
The Arab Trade Union Confederation extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the worker and call for launching an investigation into this incident.
Security forces used teargas to disperse participants in the Nouakchott porters who were protesting against a decision to transfer containers to a warehouse outside the port to unload them by foreign workers and for “less payment”, which reflected negatively on the employment of Mauritanians.
Contracting foreign workers was adopted by some businessmen as a reaction against Mauritanian workers who were calling for better rights.
The Confederation also reminds the government of Mauritanian with its obligation to the international resolutions and agreements it has endorsed and related to protection basic rights of workers including their# Right To Protest.
