“Nile Shipyard” Workers embark on an open-ended strike

EGYPT—Dozens of maintenance workers at the Canal Company for Nile Shipyard embarked on an open-ended strike, calling for incentive increase and equal treatment similar to workers in the Suez Canal Commission.

The 75 protesting workers called for an increase in their wages, medical insurance coverage and financial allowances to contribute to their marriage expenses.

They said, this move came after several attempts with the higher management to respond to their demands.

The Canal Company for Nile Shipyard is affiliated with the Suez Canal Commission and specialized in shipbuilding, ship repairs of the Nile ships and the floating units.

Nile Shipyard Company occupies an area of 35 acres, Al Mahameed Bahari, south Arment – Luxor governorate. The company started in partial experimental operation in 2003 with a capital of L.E.150 millions.
