Palestine— The labor ministry has decided to freeze trade unions and federations bank accounts.
The ministry addressed Azzam Shawwa, head of the monetary authority and requested him to allow opening any new bank account for trade unions and federations without receiving an official letter from the ministry.
Naser Qatami, the ministry’s secretary general stressed that the decision to freeze the federations’ bank accounts seeks to achieve equality and transparency. In addition, he said, it comes in line with the ministry’s monitoring role and does not target trade associations and their freedoms.
