EGYPT—The Egyptian government started to investigate sources of fund for the independent unions.
The move came following monitoring communications between these unions and some international donors to encourage workers to protest against the country’s general trade union confederation.
According to documents published in the Egyptian media, plans are under way now to form a committee with members representing the ministries of social solidarity and international cooperation to identify violations committed by the independent unions to take the needed legal measures.
An informed source said the concerned ministers will start investigating the source of financial aid and funds provided to these unions.
