Jordan bans foreigners from working in 11 jobs

JORDAN— The Ministry of Labor in Jordan has decided to implement a Jordanians-only policy on more types of jobs in an attempt to cut unemployment rates and improve the situation of the Kingdom’s citizens.

The new decision will put an end to the issuing of new work permits and the renewal of current permits for migrant workers in 11 different occupations in the country.

Officials emphasized the importance of a Jordanians-only policy for occupations that include administrative posts, accounting, typing and secretariat, in addition to jobs in warehouses, decoration works, electricity sector, mechanics and drivers.

However, the decision excluded drivers who work in companies that the government is partner in.

The country will not also allow migrants to work in medical sector, unless there is a reason and after consulting with the concerned authorities. The same applies to jobs in the teaching sector.

The decision also excluded non-Jordanian husbands and children of Jordanian women in addition to workers in foreign investments and companies.
