Palestine- Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) in cooperation with the American Solidarity Center launched a unit in order to receive complaints and reports regarding workers who get arrested by Israeli police when they head to Israel to seek work.
The problem is considered one of the troubling dilemmas, as the Israeli occupation army consider them illegal workers who violate the Israeli military orders, while this measure is considered globally on of the most violation of movement freedom of individuals and human groups according to the international human rights law.
Israel canceled a military order No. (5) Known as the general permit that gave the commander of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip the right to allow people to enter Israel in 1971, but the order was replaced by a new military order issued on January 17, 1991, that prevents people from West Bank and Gaza from entering Israel.
Because there is no way to earn a living in the Palestinian Authority areas, thousands of young graduates risk entering Israel without permits because the occupation authorities deny such permits.
The Federation seek to count the number of detainee workers, and then will organize visits in detention centers in cooperation with The Nelson Mandela Foundation for Prisoners Affairs, and then to determine the appropriate legal follow-up options.
The Federation has asked the families of detainee workers to inform the union immediately, so that they can legally follow them up until they get released, and return to their homes safely.
