Egypt – President of the Democratic Union of Egyptian Workers Saad Shaaban said the Minister of Manpower, Mohammed Saffan, does not move to resolve the growing labour strikes, adding that his union is preparing to organize a campaign to withdraw confidence from him.
Shaaban said that the minister did not represent the workers, in international forums in particular the International Labour Organization that received multiple complaints by the independent trade unions concerning violations they face every day.
He stressed that the minister did not organize any community dialogue to discuss the trade unions law, and completely refused to disclose the final version of the law.
He pointed out that labour protest rates in the era of the current minister has increased, pointing out that the minister does not have the vision to resolve labour problems.
He also pointed out that the ministry has turned into what looked like a military barracks, where security prevents the entry of workers and trade union representatives, contrary to what was happening in the era of former ministers.
