Bahrain – 27 temporarily employees of the northern area municipality are expected to be jobless by the end of the month (September / September 2016), while the Ministry of Works and Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning has not finalized the functional structures, despite repeated promises from ministers and officials in the ministry since 2007. Moreover, those workers have no social security.
The last official excuse released by the ministry is that the Ministries of Works have merged with and Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and that they have to wait until they end the functional structure of the new ministry (which was scheduled to be completed by March or April 2016 ). Therefore cannot make any hiring only after the adoption of the structure that will determine vacancies.
Mayor of northern area, Mohammed Bouhmod said “I have contacted the ministry recently on this subject, and as usual I did not get a response” adding that “the staff are closer to be hired, according to the promises we received from officials at the ministry in early 2016, but there are no positive signs so far due to tossing responsibility”.
Bouhmod said” there are 27 employees, 16 employees were on temporary contracts, and 11 others from within the staff contracts through (tamkeen), and they represent 65 per cent of the total number of secretariat staff. In spite of the absence of stability, they represent the lifeblood of the municipality; they have gained extensive experience in their field, making it difficult now to end their contracts”.
