labour ministers discuss labour market and unemployment challenges at the” Union for the Mediterranean”

The third Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Meeting on Employment and Labour will be held today  in the Dead Sea to discuss labour market in Europe and the Mediterranean basin countries.

.The meeting, which brings together 43 Arab labour ministers and officials in charge of employment and labour, is an important opportunity for all participants to jointly address the challenges and exchange views of employment, unemployment, which represent major obstacles that threaten the stability and security of states, their peoples and societies without exception.

Discussions during the meeting will address challenges facing labor markets in Europe and the Mediterranean basin countries, study and the adopt successful initiatives, and seek to agree on procedures to effectively implement these initiatives, the statement added.The meeting will also discuss current challenges facing labor markets in the region in order to create decent job opportunities mainly for young people.

A new paper issued by Jordan labour watch criticized the operating policies and the limited new  job opportunities in the Kingdom.

The paper said that the challenges faced by the local labour market are huge, “labour face bad  work conditions because of the economic and social policies developed and implemented by successive governments, for example, the economic policies implemented by these governments.

The paper confirmed that economic growth rate did not exceed 2.3% by 2015, and the rate of the budget deficit before grants, aid remained high in the same year to hit 6.8% of GDP.
 

In parallel, the paper refers to the tangible and significant decline in wages for majority of labour in the public and private sector levels, taking into considerations the various price levels for goods and services.
