Jordan: Reducing Wages in Isolated Areas Due to Coronavirus

The Jordanian Minister of Labor Nidal Batayneh announced that employers have the right to reduce no more than 50% of the monthly wage of workers, provided that the wage after reduction is not less than the minimum wage of 220 dinars, about $ 310, in areas that are isolated due to the pandemic.

Tthis procedure remains in effect until the removal of insulation measures.

Last Tuesday, the Minister of Labor announced in Communiqué No. 9 issued under Defense Order No. 6 of 2020 to regulate the time and wages of workers in the private sector during the isolation period, for those residing in isolated areas and working outside them, or those residing outside the isolated areas and working within them.

The procedure is in implementation of plans to combat and limit the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
