Humanitarian Organizations, the Mediterranean Migration Crisis is Exacerbating

Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, warned that the exacerbation of the crisis of migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers is still continuing in Libya, and its intensity increased after the accident, which he described as the worst, after the drowning of at least 45 people, including 5 children, due to the explosion of their boat’s engine off the coast of Zwara.

In the same context, the spokeswoman for Sea Watch, Mattia Faye, said in a statement that the organization asked Italy and Malta about a safe port for 200 migrants that the Sea Watch ship managed to rescue and pick up, but did not receive any response, knowing that many migrants are on board the ship is in poor health.

On the other hand, the medical coordinator of MSF, Barbara Dick, described the migrants who were rescued as weak and confused, and symptoms of fuel inhalation appeared on many of them, noting that more than 30 migrants suffer from severe hypothermia, warning that prolonging their stay at sea without access to food, water or shelter, will have an even greater risk of serious health complications.

It is noteworthy that the Sea Watch4 ship is the only rescue vessel operating in the search and rescue area off Libya, and it is considered one of the largest rescue ships in the average, with a surface area of 135 square meters, and it contains infrastructure for accommodation and medical services.
