The Libyan authorities announced the death of 45 migrants, including children, in the crash of their ship off the Libyan coast. These victims were among more than 80 migrants on board the ship whose engine exploded off the coast of Zuwara.
Commenting on the incident, the UNHCR and the IOM said that Libya is not a safe destination for the return of migrants, as they are at risk of ongoing conflict in the country, serious human rights violations and arbitrary arrest after they land on Libyan shores.
It is noteworthy that more than 300 people died this year trying to cross the sea from Libya to Europe, and it is believed that the real number is much higher.
