Palestine: 95% of Working Women Were Negatively Affected by the Pandemic

Minister of National Economy Khaled Al-Asaily said that the results of the survey made to measure the impact of the global health crisis on women working in small, micro and medium enterprises in Palestine showed that 95% of working women in Palestine have been negatively affected by the pandemic.

Al-Asaily added that 27% of women’s businesses were closed, and 73% of women were able to maintain their businesses from one to four months only.

53% of women are considering laying off their employees, as women are the most difficult group to earn an income, the Minister noted.

This came during a speech by the Minister of National Economy on the Zoom platform to announce the launch of the media campaign within the “Abader” project funded by the Canadian government and the Kier Foundation in cooperation with many partners,

According to Al-Osaily, the Palestinian government has implemented several measures to ensure the provision of liquidity, including allocating $ 300 million from the Monetary Authority, $ 25 million from the Islamic Development Bank, and $ 25 million at the initiative of the Investment Fund.

Al-Asaily also pointed out that Palestinian women are the most affected by the pandemic, given that they have the least access to resources due to social and legal obstacles.

Finally, he indicated that his ministry is working to raise its participation rate from the current level of 17%.
