The Tunisian General Union of Labour called on the government to take urgent social measures that would meet to the demands of many popular groups, reiterating itscondemnation of the recent increases, which constitutes an additional burden on the expense of large segments of society, which have been directly affected by such unpopular measures, for many years.
The Union considered that the successive governments have been pursuing non-social policies that are marketed as solutions to the crisis experienced by the country, in the absence of any consideration of the social aspect. Itstressed the need to overcome what itdescribed as an injustice imposed on the employees and poor people. It also stressed the need to intervene quickly to adjust the prices and resist corruption, monopoly, smuggling and the evasion from taxation.
During the ongoing social protests in the country, the organization renewed its call on the government to increase the salary of needy families and increase the minimum guaranteed wage, along with a package of measures parallel to the current finance law, while accelerating in the preparation of a supplementary budget that takes into account the social expectations.
The union affirmed its adherence to its commitment to the rights of citizens to protest and express their rejection of policies of marginalization, exclusion and closure of the social horizon, warning the parties of taking advantage of the situation to spread chaos, sabotage public and private properties and distort peaceful protests.
