We were informed from our trade union sources in Algeria that “Rauf Mellal”, president of SNATEG union and member of the General Independent Workers Council of Algeria (CGATA), disappeared in mysterious circumstances and we lost any contact from him.
Our sources speculate that his disappearance came following against the protest, which was organized on Saturday morning, in front of the central post in Algiers. It was against the escalation of the security repression , the violation of trade union freedoms and the erosion of the purchasing power of Algerians and the appointment in public institutions, which witnessed the arrests of a number of trade union leaders, including the leadership of the National Union of Independent Users of Public Administration, Snapap”, “Mariam Maarouf “, “Abdelkader Kawafi” ,the Secretary General of the National Union of Electrical and Gas Workers and the head of the national coordination for security and prevention workers and “Yamina Maghraoui”, a leadership in the National Union of Independent Users of Public Administration .
