The Philippine authorities threaten to prevent Filipino workers from working in Kuwait due to lack of protection

The Philippine Ministry of Labour and Employment has ordered the immediate suspension of sending Filipino workers to Kuwait after the death of seven Filipino workers.

The Minister of Labour issued an administrative order to stop theproduction and issuance of external employment certificates to all employees in Kuwait until the investigation into the death is completed.

The Philippine president declared that he wanted to impose a complete ban on the diffusion of Filipino workers, especially domestic workers in Kuwait after reports of sexual abuse and the loss of four Filipinos in the past few months in Kuwait.

For their part, the Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that the death of Filipino workers and the loss of four Filipinos are accidental and that Kuwait is keen on the rights of its employees and in the prevention of any attacks or abuses. Moreover, the legal procedures for these cases were taken immediately at that time.

It is noteworthy thatKuwait is still one of the main destinations for Filipinos overseas and employs 170,000 people.
